The Mayan deities

The Itzamnaaj was lord over the most fundamental opposing forces - life and death, day and night, sky and earth. Itzamnaaj could be depicted as a serpent or two-headed reptile.

Other deities included the sun-god K'inich Ajaw, the rain and storm god Chaak, and the lightning god K'awiil.

The Maya believed each person had a 'life force' in their blood, and draining the blood in a temple could give some of this life force to a god.

Reflecting values of the tiny houses movement
*Inspirations for going tiny is environmental consciousness, self-sufficiency, and the desire for a life adventure.

But tiny houses physically demand particular social relationships that not everyone can manage. Why We Feel Overwhelmed
We’re overwhelmed by all the things we have on our plates, all the interruptions and messages and emails, all the things online and on social media, all the news, and chaos of the world, and all the things going on in our relationships. It’s a lot! We can celebrate the abundance of our lives, but often we bemoan it.

The problem isn’t the abundance, but our fear and anxiety about all of it. Actually, for most of us, the fear is that we’ll let people down. We’ll drop one of the many balls we have in the air and let people down, or worse yet, we’ll drop them all and we’ll be exposed as inadequate!

And I mean it. Don’t even think about it ! If they have to be chased, then they don’t want you. And if they don’t want you, then you shouldn’t want them (see #2). As Maya Angelou says, “When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.” If someone is showing you that they would rather not date you, believe them. Shrug your shoulders and move on. It’s their loss, not yours. No, really—it is.

Failure In The Meritocratic Society
A meritocratic society is one in which, if you've got talent and energy, and skill, you will get to the top, nothing should hold you back. The problem is, if you believe in this system, you'll also believe in a society where those who deserve to get to the bottom also get to the bottom and stay there.

So, your position in life comes to seem not accidental but merited and deserved. And that makes failure seem much more crushing.

Enterprise Software UX Design Stumbs
A frictionless user experience is an essential component of a successful software application—this is true of enterprise software just as much as consumer software. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean enterprise UX design and consumer UX design should be approached the same way. When building enterprise software, there are some special UX considerations that must be taken into account, and some unique consequences for failing to do so.

7 Key Life Lessons I Learned from The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck
As the title of the book suggests, not giving a fuck is an art and a subtle one at that. Not giving a fuck about anything is not cool, it’s not the romanticized view of the movie hero who’s a calm badass…

It’s that feeling like nothing in your life matters, where you feel lifeless and are unable to feel anything at all. It’s basically being dead inside and having a severe depression!

At the core, the book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is about finding out your values and living by those! In other words, it’s about choosing what to give a fuck about, and what to let go of.

So the first step is to figure out what you stand for. What the things that are important to YOU are. What key principles and values are in line with the person you are and want to be.

Chess is 'life in miniature'
The 13th-century Dominican friar Jacobus de Cessolis described the ways each chess piece contributes to a harmonious social order.

He distinguished paws by trade and connected each to its royal partner.

The first pawn is a farmer and tied to the castle because he provides food to the kingdom.

The second pawn is a blacksmith who makes armour for the knight.

The third is an attorney who helps the bishop with legal matters.

Jacobus's allegory becomes the central message of the mini-series "The Queen's Gambit." Beth becomes a figurative queen after she learns to work with other players. Just like the pawn, she converts in her final game.

Equitable solutions require us to understand history, context, and cultural relativism.

Much of the historical narrative and cultural consensus has focused on the struggle for equality: equal rights, equal treatment, and equal opportunity. It was only half a century ago that the principles of our Constitution were finally written into laws that granted all people the same treatment before the law—regardless of “race, colour, sex, or national origin,” as the Civil Rights era formula goes.

The Paradox Of Technology
Technology keeps pushing out the boundaries — but only up to a certain point. Population size and consumption are (and always were) oblivious to this trend and kept increasing well beyond the limits set by resources (both natural and mineral) available to them. This is overshoot. Why is it worth reading
The story has the beautiful and mesmerizing essence of focusing on the little things that make you fall in love with the person. The way Mikki and Rachael have focused on the meticulous details, that makes true love so beautiful and meaningful, instead of focusing on the bigger picture grasps your complete attention and makes you want to read the book in just one go. Love is not always about grand gestures or expressing how one feels about the other every time. It’s also about healing and growing together. It’s about loving your partner unconditionally. Making them feel safe not just by hugs but by words too. Sometimes little moments can also give you a lifetime of happiness in a way that you would have never even imagined.

Social entrepreneurship
For a long time, the global business world was only vested in economic success while having little regard for how it may affect the environment or the health and well-being of the community. However, there has been a shift in recent years where customers and citizens are no longer willing to accept the status quo.

This is what makes social entrepreneurs so important. They recognise and pursue innovative opportunities that create social value. They consider the nonprofit and business sectors to maximise their impact.

Seven universal plots
There are only seven plots that are so fundamental to the way we tell stories that every storyteller uses one of them: Overcoming Monsters, Rags to Riches, The Quest, Voyage and Return Rebirth, Comedy, Tragedy.

It's not that good stories are the same, but the plots are less diverse. When we realize this, we see stories in a new light, because we have come to the heart of what stories are about and why we tell them.

Bach: The Music Of Harmony
For many musicians, Bach is the ‘alpha’, a shared point of reference, a starting language of how music can be made, and how it can sound. His work is timeless and covered by countless composers, jazz players and patrons. In his instrumental works, his music had a sense of balance and harmony which is found in nature, in the trees, the moon and the sky.

Pieces like the Six Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin and The Well-Tempered Clavier provide a glimpse of the other shore of the universe. The works are precise, complete, and mathematically balanced. Gymshark's Twitter Approach Is Full of Fun
British fitness apparel brand Gymshark knows that sometimes the best approach to community is laughter. Origins Of Perfume
The origin of perfume is commonly attributed to the ancient Egyptians. They utilized scents to celebrate prayers and religious ceremony by burning essential oils, resin, and perfumed unguents.

This practice had several functions: to ensure divinities’ protection and benevolence and to convey messages and prayers to the dead, to purify the body and to conduct embalming ceremonies.

Over time, scents were not only confined to the sacred aspects, but they were also introduced in daily hygiene. Already at the time of the ancient Egypt there was an intense trade of spices, aromas and resins that were abundant in Egypt but also imported from distant lands such as the Middle East, Arabia and the Indians lands. From these trades were imported fine woods, scented resins, myrrh and incense that made up some of the main ingredients of the scents of the time.
